The first round of the National Trophy took place on Sunday 11th October on the South Coast of England in Southampton.
Cory Edmondson travelled to the event as the only Inspire VCUK representative.
The report that came back noted a fantastic venue and super weather…so worth the long journey.
As you would expect, the U16 boys race started very fast with Cory getting away safely with eventual winner Toby Barnes and former national champion Euan Cameron.
Other strong riders joined the leading group soon after, including Ben Tulett and Lewis Askey.
As the race progressed the front group fractured up one of the short ascents and around eight riders, including Craig Rogers, Soloman Kerfoot-Robson and Euan Cameron formed a new leading group with Cory not far behind in a second group.
At the mid-point of the race, Cory was lying in 16th position but as the race began to settle down he took the initiative to move up and by the time he reached the chequered flag Cory had managed to move up 3 places to finish in a commendable 13th place. The winner was Toby Barnes, followed by team mate Lewis Askey in 2nd place and Ben Tulett in 3rd.
Being the first national, Cory was pleased with a top 15 result and looks forward to building on this performance as the season continues.
