Race Report – Dolan #3
Last Saturday three of the team arrived at Southport for the finale of the Dolan Series organised by Ken Beck of the Southport Cycling Club in Victoria Park.
The day started well as the boys got rather excited to discover that Bradley Wiggins had arrived with his young kids participating in the lower categories.
Here is Cory’s account of Race #1:
The morning of the race was 8 degrees but with a chilling wind making it feel like -2. With no sign of rain the race kicked off 20 minutes late with Cory, Daniel and Luke going to the start at 11:20. The race started off fast and had seen no sign of slowing up with the Isle of Man team pushing hard at the front, splitting the peloton up very fast. The race was 20 laps of a 1 km course and had lots of technical corners so it was hard to move up with the constant concertina affect. Dan had a good start and was in the middle of the bunch with myself a few riders back and then Luke not far behind the bunch but eventually being lapped with such a high pace. The race was over in 35 minutes with Dan finishing in the top 15. I finished a little further back.
Here is Dan’s account of Race #2:
The second race was the shortest of the two, only 7 laps. After the first race some riders were tired and the race started off at a slower rate but after the first half lap attacks started to go with the Isle of Man having the majority of riders in the front group and they were in control. I kept a good position throughout the race with Cory and Luke not far behind. After being squeezed out on the last lap I sprinted in and came 10th with Cory and Luke a little further behind. Overall a good day of racing in the cold.
